Beginning November 1st, PFDs are required to be worn while paddling.The risk of shock and drowning is greatly increased during cold weather. Therefore, Pennsylvania's Fish and Boat Commission requires all people on canoes, kayaks, or paddleboards to wear a PFD between November 1 through April 30. Children age 12 and younger are required to wear PFDs at all times of the year.
Beginning May 1st, PFDs are no longer required to be worn while paddling, each person is still required to have a PFD with them while paddling
